What is a detox..... ?


“Detox” or “cleanse” have become very trendy words in the last few years. Just like the “Diet” market, the number of cleansing practices out there is abundant…. From colonics to coffee enemas, full fasting, alternate fasting, fruitarian diets and many more so-called Detoxification programs can be found everywhere.


In Ayurveda, detoxification is a huge part of ones treatment plan....



In fact, the practice of cleansing is considered a vital part of one’s lifestyle. According to Ayurveda, a proper cleanse is first of all one that takes the person’s Prakriti (body type) into consideration. We are all unique and a proper assessment always need to be done, first to assess the client’s body constitution but to also check the level of the tissues impacted by the build-up of toxins.



The very same way that we cannot call "sweeping the floors" a “Spring clean” we cannot call the action of flushing the Gut a "Detox".

Ultimately an ayurvedic cleanse will focus on drawing the toxins out of the 7 bodily tissues into the GI track for elimination. This process is usually not a pleasant one. As these impurities are brought in the circulation and blood, one will often experience a feeling of sickness, chronic fatigue, headaches and constipation.


However, if a full body cleanse is undertaken properly, the end result should be an improved sense of balance and overall health.
